A few years ago this historic Richmond venue was very nearly an afterthought. After being purchased by developers, the building was scheduled to become a block of block of apartments. Following a change of heart, however, the developers decided not to go down this path and the Rising Sun Hotel was recently reborn once again.
Established in the 1800’s, this iconic venue offers a truly an authentic Melbourne pub experience. With a relaxed atmosphere, rooftop beer garden and excellent pub food, the Rising Sun Hotel was, and is now once again, a mainstay for Richmond locals. Despite many changes in ownership, the Hotel has successfully managed to maintain its character and heritage feel to this day.
“It’s a Melbourne icon, and so many people were devastated it was being developed into apartments,” relayed Patrick Reardon Jr – progeny of the proud Pat Reardon, now 63, who still goes in every morning to open up and get everything set up “the way he likes it”.
Located just a stones throw away from Burnley Station and a short tram ride from the MCG, the Rising Sun Hotel is a perpetually popular hang out spot for the after work crowd and bar hoppers alike.
With a large variety of delicious pub meals, a beer garden, lounge, pool tables and extensive drink selection it is easy to see why. A popular item on the menu is their very own ‘Rising Sun Burger’, a hearty burger which features Crispy bacon, egg, tomato, cheese, onion jam, BBQ sauce and chips, all for just $18.
The Rising Sun also offers an ever-changing and rotating menu of daily food and drink specials. Head down to 395 Swan St and check them out for yourself!
